Men’s Cricket – What’s the Ideal Body Shape for a Bowler?
Cricket Gurus will tell you that the ideal bowler should be slim, with a wiry physique, straight and upright stance, long strides and a perfect line when releasing the ball.
In other words, the ideal bowler body shapes should be built like an Olympic pole-vaulter from the waist up, a Marathon runner from the waist down and movement all around of a Swiss timepiece.
And when they’re not delivering perfectly timed balls at the end of classy run-ups, they can freelance on the World’s fashion catwalks or blow audiences away at the ballet!
Sorry folk! The ideal body shape for a bowler can be as varied as a pumpkin from a pea.
Great bowlers come in all sizes, all shapes, all heights, all weights, with short legs or long strides, ‘shtumpy’ arms with ‘boxer’ biceps or ‘gangly grabbers’ on slinky shoulders.
Remember! There is no such thing as the perfect shape for a bowler because, in reality, there is no such thing as a perfect bowler and no such thing as perfect body shapes for bowlers .
Great bowlers however, have a few things in common. They all have the ability to ‘psych’ out their opponents. They all have the ability to control the ball. They all have the talent to tweak the ball so that it does something unexpected when it is supposed to be predictable.
Above all, great bowlers have the ability to apply themselves to the task at hand, often making the task seem as if the whole exercise is as natural as blowing a flying kiss down a country path to a good friend!
Great bowlers also work at being great bowlers.
So if you look in the mirror just before you go out to do battle and you notice that your tum-tum is a little saggy and your ‘moobs’ are a little bouncy, don’t even try and breathe in. Just use your body image as a distraction – That’ll fool ‘em every time!!
For a whole new look at Cricket and finding a level playing field for all.
